Napoleon’s 200th Anniversary

On the occasion of the bicentenary of Napoleon Bonaparte’s death, on May 1821, on Saint Helena Island, Gascogne Vins has the pleasure to put forward this week the emperor’s wine: the Gevrey-Chambertin.

This Burgundy wine, highly appreciated by Napoleon but also adulated, in the whole world today, is a powerful and tannic wine, made from Pinot Noir grape varieties. The grapes are cultivated on the heights of the town of Gevrey-Chambertin (appellation Côte de Nuit), the province’s grounds provide elegance and finesse to the wine but it also gives it body and firmness.

Napoleon Bonaparte was in love with the Gevrey-Chambertin that he brought everywhere, including for great battles. The legend even says that he would have taken dozens and dozens of bottles on the battlefields, and that he would even have planned too much, as in Egypt, where the French had to bring the bottles back to France after the battles.

So today we have decided to honor a particular bottle of Gevrey-Chambertin ! That of producers Bouchard Père & Fils, one of the oldest wine houses in Burgundy, perpetuating traditions for nearly 3 centuries and 9 generations. Why this house ? Simply, because we have a direct allocation  with this house, which allows us to offer you, your wines in the best conditions.
